Level Design

Overview

Advanced Mission Design involved working in a small team to create one of three levels for a pre-made projects. The team was me and two other students, who decided that we would give a horror theme to our levels. My level was a shipping yard that included a maze of shipping containers, a warehouse and a abandoned ship. Alongside the levels, I also changed the jumping mechanic to be a vaulting mechanic instead.

A detailed list of tasks for the project:

  • Create a Pre-Production document with team detailing the story, mood board, colour palette and any additional mechanics needed.

  • Plan the level layout, detailing where the enemies will be, spawn points, pick-ups, etc.

  • Create the vaulting mechanic, allowing the player to vault over objects of a certain height.

  • Blockout level before filling it with assets gathered from the internet and Epic Marketplace.

  • Tweak camera effects.

  • Add a rain effect above the player that follows them around.
